Let food by thy medicine and medicine by thy food

Aloha kakou,
Things have been great... going along the path of self discovery. Enjoying these summer days in November. It feels like fall may be coming now though. I really do appreciate seasons sometimes. I don't really like rain and colder than 70 degree temperature but I can deal. I've learned a lot about alternative medicine and natural health too, it's always ongoing. I ordered Simply Raw, a DVD documentary, that is simply great. I love supporting a great cause. Here is the link: http://www.rawfor30days.com/RawFor30/WDD2_2010.html. I am applying to get my Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. I am really looking forward to getting started on that!

Back to school?

So after being out of school for four years, it's time to go back to school!

I've also started a new detox sort of. It's one I found on www.care2.com. It's a different set of things you detox from each week for 4 weeks. This week it is 3Ps(processed ,packaged, prepared foods), fried stuff, gluten(which is next to impossible, but trying hard), no dairy, alcohol(oops, I had a bloody mary today), tobacco, drugs, sugars, etc. I really look up to anyone who can pull off a detox. It's tough to do. I'm going to try to stick to it, with school starting and everything. It will be hard but finding a Trader Joe's near my school will be key.

I also have been using honey as a facial cleanser and using Aubrey Organics Lumessence Lift Firming Renewal Cream. It was a winner of one of the best night creams on the Beauty with a conscience awards by Natural Solutions. I got the honey idea from www.highonhealth.org. Fran has really inspired me. I am really excited about using simple products on my skin and in my body. It feels so much better. I hope to get my boyfriend on board... slowly but surely. He tried the honey as a facial cleanser once! I hope to keep learning about healthy eating and skin care. I know there is so much more to learn.

First blog ever!

Aloha Kakou,
I am pretty inspired at the moment. I just feel there's so much I have been learning about natural health, diet, and skincare that I never had a clue about. And to all my friends, I am a freak hippie girl. Why aren't there more people concerned about the chemicals in the products we use. The ingredients in the foods we eat that we can't even pronounce.

Is this not baffling to anyone else??

This is the question I've been asking myself lately. Why am I the weirdo because I am using baking soda and apple cider vinegar to wash my hair and the "norm" is to use shampoos and lotions that contain chemicals like L.S.L. , la uric acid, diisopropyl adipate, and cocamide DEA? What the heck are those things? I mean, when people go to the beach they're so concerned about using sunscreen in the sun but will eat a big bag of Doritos while at the beach. Where does this confidence in the foods we eat come from? How is it that we trust the sun and nature less than we do corporations producing highly processed foods. No one has really questioned these things and I feel like I should start this blog to try to help inform people about what we should be questioning because ultimately this is our body and lives at stake.
